Ulasan buku: The DaVinci Code

Memang cerita ini banyak memberi peranan kepada kerja Da Vinci, contohnya The Vitruvian Man dan The Last Supper. Jangan terkejut kalau-kalau The Last Supper mempunyai rahsia cerita di sebalik lukisan. Ataupun jangan terkejut kalau mengetahui versi lukisan Virgin of the Rocks yang asal bagaimana.

Ulasan buku: Tunggu Teduh Dulu

Itulah penangan Tunggu Teduh Dulu.

Faisal Tehrani berjaya menyelami isi hati wanita.

Encik Faisal, saya cadangkan cepat-cepatlah Encik Faisal merangka Tunggu Teduh Dulu II.

-Bagaimana Mimi membesarkan Rabiatul Adawiyah, anak tunggalnya?

*wink*

Book vending machine

[1]
If we can have this in Malaysia, it will be bookworms' haven (I will be jumping with joy!!!!!). But with Malaysians third world mentality, is it proper? I bet it will be vandalised!

A passer-by runs past a book vending machine in a street of Paris, Friday, Aug. 19, 2005. Parisians craving Homer, Baudelaire or Maupassant in the middle of the night can get a quick literary fix at one of the French capital's five newly-installed book vending machines. Headline on the machine reads: "Book anytime".

[2]
Isnin lepas...

"Mawi dapat kereta BMW."
"Huh, sape bagi?"
"Tengku Muna."
"Tengku Muna tu sape yek?"

[Interframe Aida] "Anak Sultan Johor lah, Kak Z."

"Eh, dia tu takkan tak tahu Mawi ada tunang? Lawa ke?"

[Interframe Aida] "Dia pakai tudunglah, kak, manis je orangnya."

"Ish bagi kereta. Ada hati kot!"
"Kayalah Mawi, jutawan dah!"

[Interframe Aida] "Tengku Muna tu dah kahwin ler ngan pilot ke apa. Anak dah 2. Takkanlah dia nak ngorat Mawi."

Satu pejabat senyap.

[3]
The puzzle has been solved!
The child who bite Fawwaz last Friday at the nursery was...

[DRUM ROLLS PLEASEEEEE!!!!!]

AUNI!!!!! -oh my dearest niece :P

The movies that scarred our heart

Isn't it weird that Christian Bale (the Batman Begins hero) starred in one of the 2 stories that touched our heart so deeply with its disturbing storyline and images? I believed Aini and I really had a weird taste when it comes to selecting our movies. I believed the 2 stories really leave it marks. It hit us hard and it leave an ugly scars on the heart.

Dh is always amused when I share some movies or miniseries that I watched during our primary school days. I bet it is because of our parents, who love the kind of stories with deep thinking. Yep, who would have guessed we had a weird taste when we were in standard 4.

Really heavy stuff, I should say. It's really unthinkable when a 10-year-old girl enjoyed viewing disturbing films with her twin sis. No wonder our youngest sister enjoyed watching CSI so much when she was like 11 years old!

(1) I Know My First Name is Steven

Till today, Aini and I clearly remembered the telemovie entitled "I Know My First Name Is Steven." It was shown on TV3 (oh, those were the days we only have 3 TV channels) and we watched it when we were like 10 years old. The viewing time is at 10.30 p.m.

Oh, the mini series is really disturbing. We cried our heart out. It is an autobiography of a boy named Steven, his journey after he was abducted by a man who keep him and treated him like a child prostitute. The child had to change school, change his name because of the crazy man (who is actually a reverend!).

The plot goes like this:

7-year old Steven Stayner is kidnapped a few days before Christmas by Reverend Kenneth Parnell. Under the belief that Parnell has been given legal custody of him, and that his family has moved away, he stays with Parnell for seven years, enduring repetitive sexual abuse the entire time. Finally, at fourteen, he returns home to his family.

Summary written by Liz Jordan

"I Know My First Name Is Steven" chronicles the true story of Steven Stayner's life after being kidnapped at the age of seven and held with his captor for seven years. He returns to the police station one night after rescuing another child from his captor. At first, he denies the allegations that he was sexually abused, however later during the movie it is revealed he indeed was abused during those seven years.

Summary written by Alex Kremer

Yes, the miniseries is highly disturbing.. I clearly remembered one scene after Steven was kidnapped, his father painted the house's fence and cried when he saw one of Steven's handwriting on the fence. He escaped after the man who abused him took another boy and Steven, who didn't want the boy to endure the sexual abuse like he had, runaway with that boy.

Yes, he returned home, but he is not innocent anymore.

(2) Empire of The Sun

I was glad TV1 took the initiative to screen the movie last Saturday eventhough it started at 11.30 p.m. I first saw this when I was 11 years old (see, I told you we have a weird taste in movies during our younger days)

This is also an autobiography movie. Dh said The Shawshank Redemption is better, but I think this is one of the underrated Steven Spielberg's masterpiece.

So here goes the plot:

Based on J. G. Ballard's autobiographical novel, tells the story of a boy, James Graham, whose privileged life is upturned by the Japanese invasion of Shanghai, December 8, 1941. Separated from his parents, he is eventually captured, and taken to Soo Chow confinement camp, next to a captured Chinese airfield. Amidst the sickness and food shortages in the camp, Jim attempts to reconstruct his former life, all the while bringing spirit and dignity to those around him.

Summary written by Jeff Hansen

This is a tale of a snobbish boy, who had the privileges in his life but his life was in shambles after the Japanese invasion. He was separated from his parents for 4 long years and he had to fend off himself.

I really can see the transformation from a snobbish boy to a humble person (played brilliantly by Christian Bale - the 'Batman Begins' hero). He was reunited with his family at the end of the movie, but this dialogue really strike the chord of my heart;

Jim: I can't remember what my parents look like.

P/S: Sorry for the weird selection of stories, but I did love Anne of Green Gables miniseries apart from the 2 above. Anyone know where I can get the DVD?

Ringankanlah mahar!

Baru sahaja berborak dengan kawan mengenai kahwin awal.

Seriously, I miss out most of my time with my friends.

The restructuring

We had our major restructuring last month. Did I tell you that I also change boss as well? And yes, it is a really major restructuring. The GM came up with the matrix system on Gross Sales vs no. of TMPoints outlet, and walla, it is decided that most eastern states (Kedah, Perlis, Sabah and Sarawak included) will not be having executive post like mine. I really pitied them since most executives with my post in other states had settled down and have family and house over there. Even one sister that I knew just gave birth to her newborn when the news came that she is going to be transferred to HQ.

I told my husband about it, and he said alhamdulillah that I was not transferred to another state.. or else, I might also have to settle like most of my colleagues from other state.

The states Finance see many changes and most big bosses were being transferred here and there just like that. I still stay in the same post but with a different name and different job grade. Certain states had much higher job grade and imagine that some old managers from state is in the same post as mine. My ex-boss was transferred to Seremban.

He SMS-ed yesterday asking about Fawwaz. I really missed the moments though. He is one of the best bosses around and he is more towards siding the staff rather than the superior. He understood that we have family as well and doesn't mind much if we had to take EL over family matters.

He believe in the philosophy that we need to spend more quality time with the family. His wife is pregnant with his 7th child and he encouraged us to spend more times with our kids. As for our career, he make it his point that he will try his best in promoting us to be upgraded. He did said that he did want us to finish our jobs well, but still, he believes we also need to be back on time and spend time with our family.

As for the new boss, we still couldn't evaluate him though. He is still not in the office and I had been running the current unit alone. The new boss is kind, we hoped.

P/S: Amni kissed her brother yesterday after a one week absence from our house. I think she missed him. Amni did came back to the house on Saturday to play with Fawwaz. She was giggling over here and there to be playing with her sibling :)

Jerebu day

It is really a bleak afternoon.
I haven't watched some good Hindustan movies for a long time.
It is sometimes wonderful to wear your heart on your sleeve once in a while.

Ah dear, Bersamamu makes me cried. That is really a good substitute (for the moment) on my missing doses of Hindustan movies.

Sometimes I wonder why Malaysians had such a cold heart when giving away to charity?

I wish the AF concert finale students had the heart to cry out "SMS lah untuk Tabung Bersamamu" rather than muttering thanks for AFUNDI-ing them.

And I am depressed. If Mawi is really that good, why did he enter AF in the first place? As what Ida wrote yesterday, what if his influence is for good use -to attract people to better understand Islam in a truly Islamic way, rather than the other way around?

Thanks to the idiot box, the Mawi who once wanted to be a bilal is now a singer.

Who should I blame?

P/S: This is really a post where I cannot vent out my angers at my office since all my staff AFUNDI Mawi. And if I uttered one bad word about him, hohohohho.. I will be kick out of the office!

Fawwaz di hospital

Baru naik kerja lepas seminggu bercuti.

Fawwaz, alhamdulillah, dah sihat.

Nak pegang barang pun, kena pegang sebelah je. Sebab muka Fawwaz tahap boring sangat, suruh suami bawakan mainan banyak-banyak kat Fawwaz.

Fawwaz menawan hati misi-misi kat hospital sebab tak menangis bila didukung ke sana ke mari. Yang part susahnya, bila nak suruh makan ubat, mesti tak mahu.. Tapi kalau masukkan dalam botol, nak pula minum air kosong + ubat tu.

"Adik, nanti ibu bawa jumpa Dr Rahman ye!"
"Oh, akak bersalin dgn Dr Rahman ye dulu?"

Hutang kerja saya banyak, hutang cuti kecemasan pun banyak... tiap-tiap bulan kena ambil cuti kecemasan, adui.. apalah agaknya kata bos?

It's a girl!

Kak Tini delivered a baby girl through emergency c-section yesterday afternoon.

She SMS-ed me yesterday AFTER the operation and asked for the extra cost incurred..lor, so typical of her. Should be concerned more on her baby girl but she was more concerned about the hospital cost.

I will be going to the hospital tonight to give her tips on confinement for c-section mommies.

More updates later!

Lepas abah makan ubat olok-olok, semua tepuk tangan.. yeyeyey...
Ikut giliran ibu dengan Fawwaz pula (adoi, Fawwaz pun kena olok-olok makan :P)
Lepas tu Amni makan ubat, semua tepuk tangan

Menjadi petua ni, antibiotik pun Amni telan walaupun pahit :P

2 hari bersihkan muntah

I should have not ignored the obvious signs in my previous posting.

Both kids had:
1) high fever
2) stomach ache
3) cough
4) cold
5) cirit birit.. huhuhuh (banyak betul tukar lampin depa ni)

I was on EL for 2 days.
And both kids got 5 medicines each.
