Loch Leven & St. Andrews; 3 August

Penat dok blog pasal cooking dengan ACCA, sambung pula kisah travel kami ke Scotland (eh blog aku ni sekejap blog masak-masak, sekejap blog jalan-jalan, ampunnn). Lepas kami habis ronda Edinburgh, kami berhajat ke St. Andrews.

I was made known by Azie and a travel guide book, that this is the place where they held British Open Golf Tournament.

First stop on the way to St. Andrews, we went to Loch Leven. Loch Ness (the famed) is much further, thus we decided, based on the Scotland map, that Loch Leven is much nearer to our place. The views, masya Allah, undescribable. I used to read Judith McNaught's novels and she always refers to Scottish as the Highlanders.. now I know why.

The kids looking at Loch Leven. Air sini bersih ya amat.. much further down in the UK map, the water becomes much more murkier (thus in London, the water tasted WAY different than a normal drinking water should be). Air masak kat hotel kami, macam air mineral! That's how pure the water is.

Model baju hujan dan payung. Takpe nek ummi, baju hujan tu berapa pound jer, beli masa sale.

We reached St Andrews after a one-hour drive from our hotel. And this is the view, St. Andrews church! St Andrews sangat lawa ok, bandar sebelah pantai... Very windy! And we got to know this is the first Christian town, and the castle was built for priests to live, not for kings or dukes.

Kami sebenarnya ke sana nak mencari University of St. Andrews (the 3rd oldest UK university after Oxford and Cambridge). Prince William studied here. Sampai-sampai, administration building tu modern complex. Pergi berjalan dok mencari mana laa universiti St Andrews yang dok kata old built ni. Sekali jumpa, lah celah-celah kedai ke.. yang paling best, ada jumpa Department of Medievel History. Hmm, I wonder what did they learn in that course? Interesting, interesting..

Found a bakery. Sedapnyaa!

Kedai bakery tadi. "Do you accept debit card?" "No, but we do accept personal cheques." Ada ke pelik terima personal cheque untuk bayar roti?

Sedap tau roti dari kedai ni, sangat lembut dan fresh made. Staff sangat friendly melayan aku yang dok tanya apa ingredients dalam roti dan pastry. Cawangannya ada kat Scotland jah, Glasgow pun takde kedai ni...

Duit pound Scotland. Lain ok dari pound England. Kami tukar duit pound England siap-siap sebelum keluar dari Scotland, takut tak laku pula duit tu kat area sini.

Kedai buku! Cantiklah deretan kedai kat sini. Old built. Nampak tak bas tu? Suami kata confirm memang sini tempat depa buat British Open, ada nampak seorang pakcik tunggu bas sambil pegang kayu golf.. hahaha.

Unsurprisingly, this town has a high living cost, sebab orang-orang kaya yang dok main golf duduk kat sini.

Balik, singgah Scotland's Secret Bunker. Okla, takde la best mana pun. Lagi best muzium tentera kat PD tu, wakakak. Fawwaz dok pegang bom.

Our last visit, walaupun anak terlentok dalam kereta - Royal Garden of Edinburgh. Totally worth the visit. Tamannya very well kept, banyak spesis bunga-bungaan, dan yang pasti amat mendamaikan.

Lulus dengan (tidak) bergaya!

Alhamdulillah.

Apa korang nak tahu markah? ACCA takde grading tau, aim nak lulus sahaja. Yelah periksa satu dunia macam SPM..

Yang pastinya paper paling susah I score! Terkejut tengok markah paling tinggi dari paper Corporate Reporting. WAHAAAA!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Bila Farah bawa biskut buatannya ke kelas, sayalah orang pertama yang makan. Sedapnya!

Dia cakap ini resipi rahsia keluarga. Tapi dia bermurah hati hulur kat saya.

Orang Malaysia di sini tidak ambil order kuih tunjuk-tunjuk. Jadi kena gigih membakar untuk raya (tapi ada kemungkinan kuih-miuh akan habis di bulan puasa). Jadi kita namakannya bukan kuih-muih Raya, tapi kuih-muih bulan puasa.

Tadi ada tukang tester masa saya mula-mula bakar, dia cakap sedap (entah betul ke tak, sebab dia dengan Fateh jer tak puasa dalam rumah ni). Buruk-buruk pun manisnya mengigit jari. Ermm.. bau semerbak dapur saya membakar biskut tadi.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 large egg
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour*
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts
1 bag (12 oz) semisweet chocolate chips (2 cups)

Directions:
  1. Heat oven to 375°F.
  2. In large bowl, beat sugars, butter, vanilla and egg with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt (dough will be stiff). Stir in nuts and chocolate chips.
  3. On ungreased cookie sheet, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.
  4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft). Cool 1 to 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.

*If using self-rising flour, omit baking soda and salt.

Untuk lebih umph, saya masukkan cornflake yang telah dihancurkan satu cawan (alter resipi Chocolate Chip Spotties kak Tirana sikit) menggantikan sukatan 2 cawan chocolate chips. Jadinya ramuan saya, 1 cawan choc chips, dan 1 cawan cornflakes.

Sebab menggunakan self raising flour, saya bentukkan biskut sebesar 1 sudu teh. Elok-elok sahaja kembang biskutnya tidak terlalu besar.

Ini pula resipi Chocolate Chip Spotties, lebih kurang sama saja dengan resipi rahsia di atas. Tapi ramai kawan yang sudah membuatnya menyukai biskut ini;

Chocolate Chip Spotties

Bahan2nya:

1 biji telur
1 tsp vanilla

Bahan A

150 gm butter
150 gm gula castor/gula aising

Bahan B - disebatikan

1 cawan coklat chip
2 cawan corn flake - dihancurkan tapi jgn terlalu hancur
1 cawan badam cincang

Bahan C - diayak sekali

1 1/2 cawan self raising flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda

Cara membuatnya:

  1. Pukul bahan A hingga gebu.
  2. Masukkan telur dan vanilla dan pukul 1/2 minit lagi.
  3. Masukkan adunan C.
  4. Masukkan adunan B dan kacau hingga rata.
  5. Dengan menggunakan sudu, ceduk adunan(anggaran 1 sudu) dan letakkan di atas loyang yang telah disapu dengan butter.
  6. Bakar dalam oven yang telah dipanaskan pada suhu 160 degree celcius selama 15 minutes atau sehingga kekuningan.

Salam perantauan dari Old Trafford

We went for the Old Trafford tour yesterday, finally. My first time was for my ACCA exam (which shows that hubby, who is a fan of Manchester United was so excited to send me to the stadium). And we keep delaying this tour, since he said that there are certain sections of the stadium which will be closed to the public in July. So hence, the trip was made during Ramadhan in August.

The tour was well worth the money spent, we are in a group of 20 and we had a tour guide to explain the history (we got a very talented guide, who supports MU when he was like 8 or 10 years old, and he is already in his 60s). Wuuuu, lama tuuu... Siap tour guide lain dok walkie talkie dengan pakcik ni, tanya pasal soalan MU yang tak terjawab oleh mereka dari pelawat.

And when we said we are from Malaysia, wahahah... biasalah, orang Malaysia ni sama ada minat MU atau Chelsea, betul tak?

Green green grass by the stadium. En Suami saya dah berangan kalau dapat kerja potong rumput kat sini (memang ada orang tengah potong rumput). Saya cakap, pergilah apply, mana tau kot ada rezeki potong rumput kat padang MU ni. Ngeee.

In the players' changing room. Surprisingly, it was very down to earth. Rasanya pemain Malaysia lagi dahsyat diberi layanan. Tempat istirehat depa pun, seriously, classroom anak-anakku lagi best.. heheh. Lepas kahwin dengan suami saya, habis kenal semua pemain MU. Ryan Giggs ni dari tahun 1992 dah ada.. I love Giggs!

Bye bye Old Trafford. Nanti jumpa bulan 12 lagi yer, kasi makcik stress sebab ACCA exam.

Tunjuk kat suami, tempat saya exam banquet cum function hall (Manchester Suite), cuma takde makanan jer kat tempat exam tu. Namanya pun dah banquet hall. Hehehe..

Bangga doh orang tanya kau exam mana? Aku exam kat stadium bola Manchester United :P. Mana boleh nak jawab camtu kalau ambil exam kat Malaysia, ahaha.

Durian oh durian!

Betullah Azie, dok sini teringin habis makanan Melayu. Aku baru siap menggolek onde-onde kat dapur tadi. Siap masak rendang dengan nasi himpit. Sob, rindunya rendang mak mertuaku.. sob,sob.

Tambah-tambah time puasa ni. Habis semua resipi minta dengan Ummi kat Malaysia. Ummi, harus sujud syukur anak Ummi pandai masak bila datang sini.

Semalam, masa Skype dengan Ummi, sempat diperturunkan ilmu buat kuah durian kes dapat durian isi keras.

Resipi kuah durian

Isi durian (buang bijinya)
1/2 sudu teh garam
Santan
4 sudu besar gula

  1. Masukkan isi durian dan air (lebih kurang 1/3 dari isi durian) ke dalam periuk.
  2. Masukkan garam.
  3. Rebus isi durian sehingga lembut dengan api perlahan.
  4. Sekiranya sudah lembut, masukkan santan cair dan 4 sudu gula.
  5. Rebus sehingga kuah durian kelihatan lemak berkrim (disukai ramai!).

P/s: Eh kalau ada pulut lagi mengancam kan! Kena beli steamer ke rasanya? Murah ke steamer kat sini?

Ummi, nasi dagang menjadi!

Bestnya makan nasi dagang semalam. Sebab dok korek-korek kertas resipi rahsia Ummi bagi semalam, teringin nak makan nasi dagang. Insya Allah lepas ni Aida try buat nasi kerabu resipi rahsia Ummi pula ye!

Nasi dagang Ummi Aida (the best nasi dagang in the world!)

Beras lembut
Beras pulut (1 portion) + Beras biasa (3 portion)

Kalau: Kukus:
Rendam beras lembut overnight OR
Rendam beras pulut lebih kurang 2 jam

Tanak biasa - tak payah rendam

Beras + santan + pinch of salt + gula + halba
Bila kering, masukkan halia (mayang) + bawang merah/besar (mayang). Biar sekejap + then kacau

Lauknya:
If ikan: Rebus + garam (sederhana) + nisan (1) + lengkuas (ketuk-ketuk) + asam keping (4 or 5) + sedikit air (tutup ikan lebih kurang 1/3). Biar api kecil. Bila agak kering, tutup air & biar overnight.

  1. Blend bawang merah / besar (agak banyak) + rempah kari. (Jangan masuk daun kari)
  2. Tumis hingga betul-betul masak
  3. Masukkan santan. Kacau & biar mendidih sekejap
  4. Masukkan ikan & air-airnya sekali (everything). Kecilkan api & biar naik minyak. Rasalah
  5. Last masukkan cili api. Jangan masuk garam sebab ikan dah masin

P/S. Santan - agak pekat. Minyak agak banyak
Additional lauk, rebus telur.

If guna ayam, then just substitute - tak payah rebus tapi masuk gula + garam + asam.

Alhamdulillah, Amni & Fawwaz dah start puasa. Tahan 17 jam lapar dan dahaga. Cuaca pun membantu. Tapi semalam dah tak tahan jam 8 malam sebab Fahri makan yogurt depan diaorang. Heheh.. Bertahan sikit jer lagi, penuh 3 hari dah semalam. Dan sebagai ganjarannya;

Beli coklat kat Lowry Outlet Mall (ada jumpa Cadbury Factory Outlet, so tak payah susah-susah pergi Cheshire Oak Designer Outlet untuk ke factory outlet yang sama). Harga pun sama. Inilah coklat legenda Afiqah yang kami belikan sebab dia pesan nak coklat. Bak kata Ummi, kalau makan coklat ni, berat naik 10 kilo!

Hehe, kitaorang tak makan lagi...

Lepas tu pergi Wing Yip, nak cari barang-barang seperti kueyteow.. tehee, dan kacang-kacang kudapan dari Malaysia. Jumpa pula durian.

Amni & Fawwaz: Nak durian! Nak durian!

Nih kes tak jumpa durian punya lamaaa.. Dah lah mak dengan anak-anaknya 'hantu durian'. Aduh, harus beli.. dekat GBP 15 satu. Tapi sebab anak punya pasal, sangguplah kan beli. Sekali makan lepas buka puasa, isinya keras dan liat. HUWAAAA!!!

Paling penting, kesian muka budak atas ni, tak pernah kenal durian :(
(wah saja jer nak pancing muka budak kecil yang mata bundar ni buat muka kesian kot sesiapa kat Malaysia nak pos buah durian dan kuih raya.. ngehehehe :P)

Old Edinburgh

Edinburgh is an old town. It was stunning. And very, very cold.

In front of Edinburgh Castle, which was built on inactive volcanoes. It's like a scene from Lord of The Rings. Oklah, entah bila nak pergi New Zealand tengok LOTR shooting places.

Edinburgh Castle is in front of us, while at the back is the High Street (Royal Mile). Yes, Edinburgh city is on hill. Rasanya kalau jalan kaki hari-hari, mahu kurus duduk sini.

In a kilt knitting shop cum factory. Scotland is famous for its traditional kilt.

Ambil gambar dengan orang yang tengah pakai kilt. Heheh

We took a bus tour. Tak larat nak jalan kaki ke sana ke mari sebab Edinburgh atas bukit. Edinburgh is surrounded with old monumental buildings. University of Edinburgh is the 6th oldest university in the UK.

Highlight of the day for the kids: we went to Our Dynamic Earth, some sort of interactive place to learn about our Earth.

Before we headed back to the hotel, we stop near the iconic Forth Bridge. Teringin juga nak naik train atas bridge tu! Tapi takde rezeki, sebab cari point kat mana nak naik train, tak jumpa.. tehee

Next stop, we went to St. Andrews, the iconic town for British Open (Golf), and searching for University of St Andrews, where Prince William once studied.

South Queensferry, Scotland; 1 August 2010

Our holiday continues when we decided to explore Scotland. It is a 4-hour drive from Manchester. Arrived at our hotel, situated in South Queensferry and we explored the small town. Scotland is considered another country from England (ada masa makcik ajar Geografi OK, bila sebut UK je sebenarnya ada 4 negara bawah UK. Baru tahu semenjak datang sini, hehehe). South Queensferry is a town bordering a straits, and over the other straits, is actually another town called North Queensferry.

In front of The Binks, a rock formation that is used as a natural jetty till 1812.
