Malaysians are crazy lots!

Yep, I am one crazy bookaholic. And I come from a family who loves books so much that my mom and my sisters are going to this event this morning.

Went to Big Bad Wolf yesterday. Got stuck in a massive traffic jam for 2 hours. Arrived at 11.30 p.m. (since BBW is open non stop for 24 hours this week, not counting weekends only. 230 hours!).

First time bringing the husband and the kids to this annual event. Kakak was so excited since I said to her that we were going to hunt The Dork Diaries series. My husband was in total shock of the numbers of visitors at night.

Finished buying everything and went back home at 1.10 a.m.

Some of the tips for BBW, that has been tried and tested:

  1. Bring cash. The credit card lane is WAYYY too long.
  2. Bring drinking water. You never know how your kids will hold up thirsty.
  3. Get some finger foods like biscuits.
  4. Come during the day. I feel really bad coming at night. After Subuh is the best.
  5. Luggage bag or trolley is a must. You never know how many books you are going to get with the cheap price.
  6. Backpacks for the kids. This is the time for them to choose and pick their own books. SO of course, they must be better equipped. Since I got 4 kids, I gave them one backpack each, and recruit them like book soldiers.

Total spent: RM 232 for 32 books.

Massive traffic jam at 11.30 p.m. to go to Mines International Convention Center.

Books books at Young Adult section.

Malay books section. Priced as low as RM 2 for the comics.

Huhu, the craziness!

Welcome to Big Bad Wolf! Took the pic after finishing everything.

Islamic books at RM 5 each.

Hardcovers at RM 20 each. Fawwaz choose the right one by the way.

My kids collection. You would never guess who read all these, which include myself. Yep, guilty as charged.

Humour and chic lits for me.

Everything under the sun for the family.

GO and GRAB the books now!

On bedrest

“Tidaklah seorang muslim tertimpa suatu penyakit dan sejenisnya, melainkan Allah akan mengugurkan bersamanya dosa-dosanya seperti pohon yang mengugurkan daun-daunnya”.

(HR. Bukhari no. 5660 dan Muslim no. 2571).

Terima kasih bang.

Penantian itu satu penyeksaan

Being in 30s and being pregnant is not fun. I am waiting for my days to give birth.

Had high blood pressure, not so easy breezy bowel movement and hemorrhoids at the end of my third semester.

Went to the clinic on Tuesday and guess what, since I have been vomiting for 4 days, the doctor detected high blood pressure. Dr. Faridah who is always stingy with MCs ushered me back home in an instant.

Then the next day I met Dr. Rahman, my gynae for the past 3 pregnancies. Having a yo-yo BP, I was given MC with a warning on home hospitalisation.

And today it hurts like he##, the piles I mean. Been trying all types of creams and medication. Aiyoyo..

Been enjoying my me time last week with a bunch of friends from school. Love that our group of friends had been flying high all over.

Hand, foot and mouth disease

So, my youngest son has been whining about 'sakit mulut' since Wednesday last week, and we saw that it was ulcer, and nothing else. We applied Bonjela cream to make it better for him to eat.

But the condition started to worsen on Friday, when the nursery told my parents that Fateh did not eat a single thing.

Then on Saturday, during one of the kenduri kahwin, I saw bubbles on his hands. I was like, "OMG, he must have chicken pox!". He lost his appetite and did not eat much.

On the way back, we went to my sister's rented house and she showed Fateh's hands to her friend.

Thus, when we got back to our home, we brought him back to the clinic. Yes, we went there on Friday just to check on the ulcer progress, or he might have some fever. The doctor confirmed it was HFMD, and we send our 3 older kids packing to my mom's house, because this will be infectious for children below 12 years old.

And Fateh, alhamdulillah, has been recovering well. He started to eat on Sunday, and the bubbles on his hand had slowly gone.

And for this week, I might take annual leave to take care of him.

Red and tiffany blue wedding themed hantarans

Now, since my Mak Long asked me to do hantarans for my cousin who is getting married on 30 November (which is end of next week), and she said to recycle some of the stuff from his brother's wedding (which was held in 2011).

So I recycled the boxes, the trays and the red flowers, and some of the stuff that I have beforehand for this hantaran.

She sent the items last Monday, and asked for 7 dulangs, which consist of:

1. Duit hantaran
2. Wedding ring
3. Al-Quran and prayer mat
4. Prayer telekung
5. Kain pasang
6. Cake
7. Fruits

I started with red, and searched for color combo palette. I don't know why but I was attracted to teal / tiffany blue. I found out that if I goggled in Malay, the hantaran inspiration or colour palette is not as good as the English site.

Inspiration comes from this picture, red rose and Tiffany blue wedding theme.

I added a dash of pink, since I could not find chocolate sand (burlop colour) to match with the red flowers. And presenting the works that I have done:

Prayer telekung in a box.

Wedding ring in a white tray.

Al-Quran and prayer mat.

Tray preparation for kain pasang.

Album for duit hantarans.

The hantarans.

Hope it give you some ideas for hantarans :).

15 November 2013: My dearest friend had a fairy tale wedding

Ifah, one of my dearest friends in Manchester is getting married. We were in the same class at Kaplan Financial, Manchester. And with less than 10 persons in that class, luckily I was paired with Farah (who got married December last year) and Ifah, fellow Malaysians.

Taking picture of ourselves before the ceremony starts. The name of the table for Ifah's friends was Ombak Rindu. She had a penchant for Malay movies and dramas.

The white pelamin.

Door gift and menu.

Family and cousins asking for some money from the groom. This custom originated from Johor and was called 'duit tol'. We were laughing when the groom produced a Touch n Go card after he has given moneys to the relatives.

Ifah, waiting for her groom.

Best of friends. Even though it is obvious on the age difference, we studied together for our ACCA qualifications. Alhamdulillah, she is alreeady an ACCA affiliate and is trying to finish her 3-year work experience to be qualified as ACCA member.

Finally meeting Liz after nearly three years. She loves the Malaysian weather and dreaded going back to Manchester next week. It is, after all winter season in the UK. Liz was the student advisor at Kaplan Financial, before she changed her job. She is friendly and helpful with the students.

Picture with the lovely bride and groom. Congratulations Ifah on finding your Mr. Cool. The film and sketches were quite funny. And Ifah, wishing you the best in your marriage (in this life and hereafter).

Birthdays, birth and congratulations

Selamat hari jadi Amni sayang, selamat hari lahir Fawwaz dan Fateh sayang

Selamat mendapat anak saudara lelaki baru.

Nanti ibu ajar matematik balik.

Desa Waterpark

Long break.
Spent quality times with the family and redeemed Groupon for Desa Waterpark tickets.

Normal price is RM 25 for kids (RM 18 on promotion), and RM35 for adult (RM 22 on promotion).

Well worth it.
Picture was snapped by Fateh, who ironically, is afraid of water but takes long shower at home.

Happiness in a cake

We went back to Malacca to attend my brother in law's Masters convocation. He took Masters in Engineering and flew back from Sabah on biweekly basis to attend the classes. Alhamdulillah, his efforts paid off handsomely.

Then the kids gobbled up the cakes made by my sister in law, in a magic pan.

Fateh, eating his cake like it is the main dish of the day.

Fawwaz with the finished up chocolate cake. Yummy! It was soft and chocolatey.

Azad, my nephew after eating the cake.

Simple happiness in a cake ^_^

Aidiladha retreat

Before Aidiladha, we went for a retreat. Booked One World Hotel Junior Suite and spent the night there. It was our first city retreat. Thanks to Ummimon for recommending this to us. I would highly recommend this hotel, even though it was on the higher price bracket per night.

And the plus point is One Utama shopping complex is just a walk away from the hotel.

A refreshing retreat indeed before we were back for Aidiladha on Tuesday.
We even went to Ikea to buy some things as requested by my sisters and mom.

The kids enjoying their dinner at Pancake World, situated in One Utama.
The swimming pool at One World Hotel. Love the pool. And this retreat is actually to bring the kids to enjoy some relaxing time before their exam.
Fateh loves to self pose. This was before checking out at Ikea.
The things that we bought. Oh my, it has been ages that I remembered I went to Ikea.
Fawwaz and Fahri waiting for mummy to search for the elusive rack.
Alhamdulillah, family time well spent.

Tazkirah semalam: Khadijah r.a.

Umur Khadijah sebenarnya masa kahwin ngan Rasulullah saw berapa?
Ada orang argue bukan 40 tahun tapi Khadijah sebaya nabi?

En. Suami:
Biasa pendapat 40… tapi mmg ada kata muda lagi.

Soalan balik… apa faedahnya tahu umur dia berapa???

Muzium Kesenian Islam

Oh gosh, Blogger has been slow in uploading pictures that this is the only picture that I can upload for the moment.

In fact, this was one of the trips way back like in September to Muzium Kesenian Islam.

Reason being; there was a special exhibition on Hajj organised by Tabung Haji, that we were so excited to reminiscence some old memories, way back in 2006/07.

I have snapped a few pictures on our trip. We saw old passports, and learned how the older jemaah went for their Hajj.

But please do bear the slowness of the picture uploading. Quite a nightmare.

The above picture was the library inside the museum. No one was around and the kids enjoyed themselves.

Anak kita ahli syurga

Allah berfirman lagi: "Mengapa, Aku lihat mereka enggan masuk? Masuklah kalian ke dalam surga!"
Mereka menjawab: "Tetapi (bagaimana) orang tua kami?"

Usrah (with archery)

“O Bani Isma`il ! Practice archery as your father Isma`il was a great archer. Keep on throwing arrows and I am with Bani so-and-so.” [Bukhari]

The full hadith as below:

The Prophet (saw) passed by some people of the tribe of Bani Aslam who were practicing archery. The Prophet said, "O Bani Isma`il ! Practice archery as your father Isma`il was a great archer. Keep on throwing arrows and I am with Bani so-and-so." So one of the parties ceased throwing. Allah's Apostle said, "Why do you not throw?" They replied, "How should we throw while you are with them (i.e. on their side)?" On that the Prophet (saw) said, "Throw, and I am with all of you."

In-book reference : Book 56, Hadith 113

  (deprecated numbering scheme)

Alhamdulillah, did you know that for every arrow that you shoot, you will get reward from Allah? Masya' Allah, how ignorant of me. I didn't know that! Thanks to my junior for mentioning this to me. So of course, I checked for the hadith and found quite a few on archery mentioned by Rasulullah s.a.w.

This was our first time trying archery. It was fun, it was quick, and come to think of it, it is Rasulullah s.a.w.'s sunnah! Isn't it awesome?

(This photo was edited by the robots at Google+, I don't know how that robot can match my 2 pictures, but it turned out to be awesome!)

We had our usrah yesterday. And the girls even brought a tikar lipat to have some potluck. Hahah, cool isn't it?
We did our practice at Sunway Pyramid and we took the RM99 package with 250 arrows (around 31 arrows per person). For the kids, we paid RM 18 for 2 people (24 arrows).
Some pictures, and 2 of my older kids enjoyed it very much!

Fawwaz enjoying himself very much. His arrows are always on target. This is the kid area. I am quite confident my skill is lower than my kids, heheheh. Seriously the board shows the proof!

Amni trying her hands with archery. And her cousins tagging along. Yes my daughter is nearing the same height as me. Oh gosh!

Before we started our archery session, we had an usrah on solat. A simple but quick session.

Something different for our usrah this time! Thanks to the organiser for organising the event.
I had sore arms due to practicing archery yesterday.

Who says usrah is boring?
