iQuran

One of the most useful applications that I downloaded in my phone and in the mini computer is the iQuran. I find this quite handy, since I read Quran with translations and it is easy to carry around without the added bulk of the real al-Quran.

My point is, you can read anywhere.

I have just finished reading the whole Quran this morning. Started in October 2011, I think it is quite an achievement for myself, because I do not usually read on daily basis, before trying to read it on daily basis.

I received enlightenment when I attend usrah in 2011. This one ustaz gave talks on how, we as Muslims, always feel hard to be consistent in incorporating some simple act in our daily life. And, the example he mentioned is, reading the Quran.

He further asked, how many of us who read Quran on daily basis? And not only during Ramadhan? I think it was really customary for people to do their Quran marathon only during Ramadhan, but then did not open the Quran after the holy month.

Then he said, that if we read consistently, we can finish one whole Quran by a year. 2 pages per day, as simple as that.

My mind started to click. Just 2 pages a day? Well, that was not so hard. And I started to do my own marathon reading and interpreting the translations on daily basis. Except for certain days that I cannot read Quran (due to menses), I was able to finish it in 1 year and 4 months.

For every juzuk, there are 4 sections, so the total sections inside the Quran is actually 120 sections. I started my reading by sections, so it was easier to track.

The application made it easy for me to bookmark the verse, so I know where should I start on the next day.

And now I will be starting all over again tomorrow :). And I hope this small amal will be continuous.

With this post, I do not intend to be a show off, but to show how such an enlightenment came to me, when I came to spend some time just for a simple usrah.

Penang in pictures

We did the essentials in Penang from 22 to 24 December.
Stayed at Georgetown City Hotel and went to Fort Cornwallis.
Ate nasi kandar at another shop beside the famous Nasi Kandar Line Clear. Awesome. Thanks to the recommendations from BIL's brother.

Taking the train ride to Bukit Bendera....

Watching the Penang Bridge from atop Bukit Bendera

Entering Owl Museum @ Bukit Bendera.

With the old train. Bukit Bendera has been revamped. It was nice :)

Feeling lost at the Spice Garden, on the way to Balik Pulau

Potted plants - location unknown, I think it is in the Spice Garden

Watching the sea at Batu Feringghi. And ate lunch there.

Having the best durian at Balik Pulau.

Took the ferry ride from Penang Island to Semenanjung.

Oh, there is Penang on the other side!

Feeling content and sad after leaving Penang.

Went to Taiping to show the kids where they buried Mak Long, Ayah Long and Faris.
And ate Mee Udang Kuala Sepetang Mak Jah.

A short and memorable trip.

The end of a breastfeeding journey

And I said 'No' to Fateh when he asked for milk nearly 2 weeks ago, it was the hardest.

But Fateh is already nearing 3 years 2 months mark, and for me, that was the longest I have breastfeed my kid. And he had been supplemented by fresh milk at the nursery after we were back from UK for good.

And he already slept till morning during night time. Which meant we have not lost our night sleep for a while.

And I can splurge on my kaftans (aah, heaven...)

Belated birthday card

I received a belated birthday card from my daughter. Birthdays is actually a very quite and small affair in our household. Birthday cakes and small presents for the kids from the parents.

She told me a few weeks back, she was making a pop up card, tutored by her cousin, Auni.

And what a beautiful outcome :). She is into craft nowadays. She had been asking when are we going to do the Kirigami set. Patience my dear, patience.

Ketua kelas

'Siapa nak jadi ketua kelas? Angkat tangan'
Fawwaz angkat tangan. Siap budak kelas mengundi.

Oh the joy of having an extrovert kid.
