Let the job find you

It was interesting that people assumed I would be in Accounting / Finance / Audit after I obtained my ACCA qualification. Well, who would expect I will be doing something entirely different.

When I come back from UK, I attended interviews related to these fields. Then, I decided to go with the flow. Back to my old team, I was assigned to do Business Strategy. Before I further my study, I have been doing Finance Operation / Strategy for more than 7 years. I have done (mostly) the entire cycle of Finance Operation when I was at State.

I didn't know that someone from the top was seriously thinking that I was wasting my talent in a such unrelated task.

Then I did something else, to be specific, Product Development. I realised that I love doing this, because developing a product for the consumers was something exciting. There were quite a few products that our team developed during my short tenure, and it was interesting to study how the consumers perceived our product. We even had to attend study field and get to know our competitors prior to product launching.

After I gave birth (and during my confinement), out of the blue, my previous boss from 10 years ago (to cut a long story short: I reengaged with her during my pregnancy since I received an offer to continue Masters in Australia, but decided not to pursue due to family) decided to offer a post in her division. Since I had been doing mass market for such a long time, I was actually excited to take up the challenge, and started being involved managed account.

Which is way, way, way harder. I can say that being in previous units / divisions was like a piece of cake.

But I realised that I love doing my job, eventhough I had to study technical reports and understand the network flow in my company.

So cheers for those who would never expect doing something out of your specialisation. I would say getting a specialisation does not mean that you will be getting the job related to your field, but embrace the changes. Insya' Allah, Allah will ease the ways for you.

We attended a wedding last two weeks. And why it was so special, because we were invited by the parents (so, you know that we are old). And our friends are from our Hajj back in 2006/ 2007. The wife was actually my roommate in Makkah.

And the wedding was at my office building. So go figure, the father is a TM retiree.

My husband is very melancholic when he comes here. He was in the company for more than 10 years, but left for a better opportunity. Despite that, I am the one who is still with the company. We thought that in the first place, I will be the one resigning from the company first because of my ACCA qualification. Then, the plan switched after he was back from his umrah.

I know this is such an unrelated post, but I need a break for the past few months from work. Work has been hectic and non stop, that a friend remarked that she will (definitely) not in the future will be filling in my shoes. I am actually glad that I have a lot of work, because at least I feel compensated accordingly, when previously, I will have some times to even do other things (Internet surfing, chatting, etc.).

I have forgone that luxury for the past few years when I was at work, since I do not have the time anymore.

At least, when I am back home, I will find this boy waiting patiently for me. Love you kiddos :)

Selamat Hari Guru!

Walaupun saya bukan seorang guru, terasa sebaknya pengorbanan seorang guru dinukilkan di dalam sajak Usman Awang. Mungkin kerana ahli keluarga saya sendiri ramai yang menjadi pendidik. Sajaknya mudah tapi maksudnya mendalam.

Jika hari ini siapa sahaja menjadi dewasa;

Sejarahnya dimulakan oleh seorang guru biasa
Dengan lembut sabarnya mengajar tulis-baca.
